During the 2nd semester of my freshman year in SMU, I saw various life-sized standees of student ambassadors from ASMU displayed around school, and was curious about the organization. The moment I read an emailer about them describing what they do, I knew I wanted to be a part of the organization. I had prior experience in hosting and engaging guests and slowly developed a passion for it – a passion that led me to join and now lead ASMU as an EXCO member.
“Everyone is equally invested in providing their suggestions and feedback to make ASMU better.”
People say running ASMU is like running a corporate organization – we strive towards excellence and professionalism, and this can be seen from the way we engage important stakeholders. What is unique though, is that we are not hindered by position or seniority. Everyone is equally invested in providing their suggestions and feedback to make ASMU better.
My main focus in the EXCO is to liaise with school offices, to find ways in which ASMU can best support the school. What I love most about these partnerships is the impression we leave on these offices and how that makes them keen to work with ASMU again. It shows that we are on the right track. Amidst all this leading and strategizing, at the end of the day, what I enjoy most is engaging our stakeholders and hearing at the end of any tour “Thank you for organizing this, ASMU is an excellent organization.” That makes all the hard work worth it.
